Inspiration for Your Tuesday

I love me some girl power from time to time, and this is one such occasion. The quote comes from George Eliot aka Mary Anne Evans, a Victorian novelist. Seems I've been on a Victorian kick lately, too. Enjoy and apply :)

The Man Who Knew Too Much

The next one in the classy movie ladies feature is Doris Day in the 1956 classic The Man Who Knew Too Much. I loved the stern gray suit, the waisted jacket and the pencil skirt, oh my :)
So here's Doris...

Unemployed on Wednesday

Today's advice might seem season specific, but it should go without saying on any given day: feel the gratitude.

One of these days you're going to get together with people you love and who love you. And though it's easy to get bittered and annoyed by all the things that you don't have, or the plans that have to be on hold until some undetermined day, try to practice gratitude for what you do have.
All that matters is already with you, and whatever you work hard for, will pay off. Everything you dedicate your time to, with devotion coming from the right place, has to be rewarded, so don't let yourself get disheartened.
Happy Thanksgiving :)

Inspiration for Your Tuesday

To make a little distance from the pop lyrics, today I'm serving verses from a Victorian poem about the strength of a human being, and the tumultous, yet indomitable zest for life, Invictus.

High Society

This is possibly my favorite movie ever. I remember watching it for the first time as early as 5th grade. I love everything, from the plot, to the humour, to fashion, to interior decoration. And the dresses... I'm not a girly girl on the outside (yet), but I enjoy the feminine aspects of fashion quite a lot. The tomboyish ones, too. Depends on the mood, I guess. I chose a sort of a tomboy combo for this post. Maybe I'll do a feminine sequel next week :)
So here goes, Grace Kelly, 1953...

Unemployed on Wednesday

Let's pretend that this was actually posted on Wednesday, k?

Today's advice for you: stop and smell the roses. Both literally and figuratively. How often do you have time to do it, anyway?

My roses this week came from my Grandpa's garden, as they always do. And their scent was intoxicating, making me feel like an Ottoman princess (I don't know why, but roses always seem to make me think of the East - maybe it's their rich and velvety texture and the mysterious fragrance).

And another thing - whether your thumbs are green or black, try caring for a plant. Before, once fall came, it never ocurred to me that it wasn't going to last forever. But since my Grandpa invited me to plant tulip bulbs with him, I've been converted. To see that bulb and realise the promise of spring that lies in it was indescribable.
Do try :)

Inspiration for Your Tuesday

Wishing... isn't it sometimes the best part? The hope, the waiting, the sincerity of wanting something badly. And I don't necessarily mean material stuff... no, the wishes that make up your entire being. And the doodling... makes me think of high school and the many hours spent jotting down poems, messages to friends, ideas, future fantasies... so feel free to be inspired today :)

Monday Makeup Post

What started last week as a discipline lesson, is slowly becoming a lovely, contagious habit. Even though I'm doing the Monday post on a Wednesday :) Charade and the sweet Audrey Hepburn in 1963...

...and what they would look like today.

I've let my imagination run rampant as the coat, gloves and bag ONLY were too hard to bear :)

Unemployed on Wednesday

As I mentioned, daily features are all the rage in my book, so here's the Wednesday idea for the unemployed - or the self-employed :) Go visit your bf or gf. Better yet, if you live together - you won't have to go far. Spend a warm, cuddly morning, be silly, take photos, have fun.

Wear some cheerfully-coloured socks - one look at them can take away all the fall/winter blues.

Listen to the rain falling. Don't let it depress you - think how it will feed the grass and flowers and trees all the way to May so that you can enjoy them then.

Unemployment never looked better, right?

Inspiration for Your Tuesday

As my current goal is to teach myself some discipline, daily features seem to be working. So for Tuesdays, you'll get inspiration in terms of quotes or music, or sometimes, like today, you'll get both. While it's no Shakespeare, but a contagious pop song, it's very positive and upbeat :)

Irma la Douce

I always loved those classical movies featuring strong, intelligent, whimsical, funny women. Imagine my joy when I discovered that they are the Sunday morning special on a local TV station! Which provided instant inspiration and, hopefully, a regular Monday feature here in the nest.

This is the original Irma, circa 1963...

...and here is what I think she'd wear today. With green tights, of course :)
